Samara Gallery, Houston, Texas
Opening reception to be held Friday, March 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Two-thirds of the proceeds will go directly to helping me continue my work in Kakuma, a refugee camp in Kenya and will support Dream Studio so they may continue teaching photojournalism to students throughout the camp and creating events to discuss and find solutions to issues of concern throughout the camp.
Kakuma is a Swahili word for 'Nowhere.' Kakuma is also a refugee camp in Kenya. Those who have fled civil war and persecution from many African countries, including South Sudan, do their best to find meaning in their lives while living here, despite great odds against their ever finding a true place they can call home.
Please JOIN ME. I will be selling Archival Prints, Note Card Sets, and Pendants during this fundraising event. Your purchases will help me continue my work with Dream Studio, run by five young photojournalists living in Kakuma, who teach photography to students within the camp and organize events where fellow refugees can meet and discuss issues of concern. The funds raised will also help establish a library and micro-loan program for the Lost Boys and Girls who have been there for more than 25 years.
